A career in animation looks from the outside to be exciting and glamorous, but what is the true picture of an animator’s work? If you want to be an animator, you will be working in an animation studio with other artists and designers. You will be making use of your skills in art and in design, but you will also need technical knowledge in order to be able to use the software and hardware that creates so many of the special effects that create the excellent animation products that are used today.
You could well start off working on backgrounds, on individual characterisation, or on the finishing of animation films. You could graduate to creating storyboards that are still the framework for the animation work that is done. You may then decide to progress from working as an animator to a supervisory or even managerial role, working with animators, providing the resources and marketing that is necessary to guarantee the continuation of the animation studio. Your career in animation will be full of opportunities, giving you the chance to work in a number of different roles. Make sure that you find the right qualifications that will enable you to enter this world of animation.
