Your first step to become an animator is to select the college where you will study for your initial qualification in animation. This is an important step, and selecting the college needs some real information to enable you to form your decision. You need to know what the reputation of the college is in animation, and this will rest on the members of faculty; their qualifications and experience in the field. It will also depend on how well the alumni of the college have progressed in the field of animation.

You will also need to think carefully about the programs that the college offers. You have to decide whether you are going to gain a two year or a four year animation degree – keeping in mind that the better you are qualified, the higher level you will enter the industry. You also need to be sure that the ethos of the college will suit your methods of study.

Once you have graduated from your animation college program, you can use all the contacts that you have developed through your study period. These will include the college faculty, the careers office and fellow students as well as the contacts in industry that you have made during your time at college. Finding the right first job is a part of the successful outcome of your college program. Make sure that you maximize the opportunities that have come your way throughout your time at college.
