In what career can you find job offers at a rate of three per graduating student? Cosmetology, of course. A haircut is just like a tank of gas: when you need it, you need it, regardless of the cost, the day or the time.

cosomotology outlook

The career outlook for cosmetologists is good, no matter how they use their license. Demand is high, and according to the United States Department of Labor, salaried hairstylists and cosmetologists earn about $19,00 per year on average, but some can earn more than $35,000! Not bad for a short program; most cosmetology schools help their students find jobs after less than two years of classes.

The beauty industry is going strong, and there are openings for anyone with product and practical knowledge, ambition, people skills and the drive to succeed. Although salon owners do not need licenses in cosmetology, they often work as stylists and grow to own their own businesses. Cosmetologists and aestheticians can make their careers in day spas and retreats doing facials and treatments, or make a good salary as a product educator for a cosmetic or haircare company. Some stylists compete for prizes and recognition at trade shows, showcasing their skills. Others demonstrate new styles, techniques and products on a platform so that other students and stylists can learn from them. Whether you’re working in a salon or at a show, a career in cosmetology can be quite lucrative, and a lot of fun!
