Information Technology continues to be an exciting area of employment. Because we use technology so extensively, both at work and play, the outlook for jobs and salary levels in IT is very promising. Information Technology will remain a strong growth area, with a correspondingly bright outlook for your career. There are many kinds of IT jobs; here is the outlook for some prominent examples.

 

Computer software engineers

In 2004 there were around 800,000 computer software engineers in employment. Jobs in this area are forecast to grow much faster then the average through year 2014. Although system design houses will be the largest employers, all kinds of organizations employ software engineers. In May2004, median annual salaries were around $75-80,000 and average starting salaries for bachelor degree holders were around £52,000

 

Computer and information system managers

There were approximately 280,000 computer and information system managers in 2004. The majority were employed in design of computer systems and related occupations. The outlook for these jobs is very good, and they are forecast to grow at above average rates. In May 2004, managers in this area enjoyed a median salary of $92,570.

 

Computer systems analysts

Year 2004 saw around 487,000 systems analysts in work. Computer systems design provided the bulk of their jobs, but they were also employed in a wide range of industries. The outlook to 2014 is excellent, with computer system analyst jobs forecast to grow at a much faster rate than the average. In May 2004, these IT workers earned a median salary of $66,460.
