Every Picture Tells a Story

photography career

You enjoy taking pictures. You're intrigued by the glamour of fashion photography. How does a fashion photographer make those models look perfect in any setting? Where does a photographer learn to take the amazing shots appearing in magazines such as National Geographic? You watch TV coverage of violent crimes, and wonder how the crime scene photographer got his or her job.

Photojournalists document wars and catastrophes. If you aren't that adventurous, you can specialize in photographing buildings, interior design, or even food. Popular venues for freelance photography include portrait and wedding photos.

Photography Offers Many Career Options

Specialized types of photography are used in a variety of highly technical settings. Scientific and medical photographs illustrate laboratory and field research and medical conditions. Crime scene and forensic photographers document the results of violent crime. Private and corporate investigators take photographs to prove their findings.

Some photographers build successful careers by concentrating on a specific subject or type of photography. For example, Anne Geddes is famous for her photographs of babies dressed as flowers. Ansel Adams is best known for his black and white images of the American West. Photographic artists use their creativity to provide unique views of seemingly ordinary subjects. Photographers may begin their careers by photographing their travels, or by capturing their hobbies and interests in photographs. Accomplished freelance photographers sell their work for advertising and other media publication. Whatever your interest in photography, there are many opportunities for a rewarding career.
